Welcome back, Star Kids! Today we continue our journey into the mystical, empowering world of Taynara. In Chapter 4 of Sacred Roots, Taynara must confront her deepest grief, embrace her ancestral wisdom, and find the courage to step into her cosmic destiny.
The Quiet Place
Sprinting away from the smoke and gunfire, Taynara collapsed onto the forest floor, her heart breaking.
“Grandfather!” she sobbed into the empty, smoking jungle.
As her tears soaked the soil, a strange warmth washed over her mind. A gentle, familiar whisper echoed in her consciousness: Remember… go to the quiet place.
Gasping, Taynara pushed herself up. Guided by the voice, she scrambled toward a hidden, vine-covered stone hut tucked deep within a rocky cleft—the sacred sanctuary where her ancestors had once prayed. She threw herself onto the cold stone floor, burying her face in her hands.
The air in the chamber suddenly froze. Outside, the drifting smoke and the distant roar of engines seemed to halt mid-air. In the center of the hut, a rift of brilliant celestial starlight tore open, illuminating the dark stone walls in shades of brilliant sapphire.
Out stepped a regal figure adorned in spiritual feathers. It was her grandfather—his spirit hovering gently in the stillness, his eyes holding the depth of the night sky.
“Grandfather!” Taynara cried, throwing her arms around him, though her hands passed straight through his shimmering, starlight-blue form. “I’m so sorry! The men… they were too strong! I was so afraid, I cowered behind the trees. It’s my fault! What do I do?”
Her grandfather knelt, looking into her tear-filled eyes with infinite warmth. “Oh, little Akila, do not carry this weight. Your fear did not cause this. You did what you had to do—you survived so that our people’s light would not go out. I forgive you, my brave girl. Now, you must forgive yourself!”
Taynara took a deep, trembling breath, feeling the heavy, suffocating guilt finally melt away from her chest.
“But what do I do now?” she whispered. “I don’t know how to stop them.”
He gently leaned closer. The space around them seemed to shift, and for a fleeting second, Taynara saw a vision of her younger self walking hand-in-hand with him beneath a peaceful green canopy.
“Remember when we used to walk through the forest, little Akila?” his voice echoed softly.
“Yes,” Taynara whispered, her breath trembling. “You told me I was from the stars… and that one day I would save the forest.”
“Today is that day,” her grandfather said, his eyes glowing with immense pride and love. “You must step into your true destiny.”
He gestured to the stone shelf, where a brilliant blue-green emerald crystal began to pulse.
“This relic has been kept safe by our ancestors for twelve thousand years, passed down from the land across the great river. It holds the ancient star-power. You must use it to open the Tataendy-Okẽ and bring help.”
Taynara stared at the glowing stone, confused. “The Tataendy?”
“First, you must conquer your fear to become all that you were meant to be,” her grandfather warned softly. “You know the place I speak of.”
A cold dread instantly seized Taynara’s chest. She knew exactly what he meant. The nightmare of her childhood—the dark stone valley and the terrifying mountain hidden beneath the canopy.
“No, no…” Taynara whispered, backing away in panic. “I can’t go back there. The shadow… the darkness… I cannot do it.”
“You must,” her grandfather said solemnly. “It is the only way to save our people. I was meant to show you the ways of the stars, but my time has passed. There is one who will guide you instead. Look for her in the quiet place. Trust her.”
Before she could ask who he meant, his spirit faded into shimmering dust, leaving her alone in the quiet sanctuary with the pulsing crystal. She stared at the stone, her panic slowly cooling into a steady, burning spark of resolve.
To quiet the terrifying storm spinning in her head, Taynara sat cross-legged on the cold stone floor of the sanctuary. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and let her shoulders drop.
Look for her in the quiet place; her grandfather’s words echoed in her memory. Trust her.
She knew exactly what she had to do. Her grandfather had taught her that when the physical world breaks, you go to the quiet place inside—you sit still, quiet your mind, and let your spirit cross over.
She began the sacred breath of her ancestors—the Breath of the Forest:
Inhale for four slow beats of a soaring eagle’s wings…
Hold for two quiet heartbeats of the ancient mother tree…
Exhale for four gentle rushes of wind through the canopy…
With every cycle, the physical world faded. The sound of her own heartbeat softened, the cold stone beneath her dissolved, and the darkness behind her eyelids expanded into an endless sky.
She exhaled one last time and stepped out of her body.
Taynara opened her spirit eyes. She was standing in the Spirit World—a breathtaking, weightless realm where the Amazon forest existed as glowing threads of emerald light and rivers of liquid gold. Down below, her physical body remained kneeling in the hut, but up here, her spirit was free, floating among rivers of starlight.
Where are you? Taynara whispered into the cosmic expanse, drifting along the currents of light.
Thousands of miles away, sitting in a darkened room with her eyes closed, a girl named Shock D was in her own deep meditation. Her consciousness had also untethered from the physical world, floating along the outer edges of the spiritual plane.
Guided by the ancient pull of their shared star-ancestry, their spirits crossed paths in the quiet void.
It happened in an instant—a sudden, beautiful collision of light. Taynara’s emerald spirit form brushed directly against Shock D’s vibrant, crackling spirit form.
Space collapsed between them.
In that single touch, their minds flooded with a flash of absolute, unspoken truth. Taynara saw a glimpse of a girl surrounded by city lights and glowing screens; Shock D saw a ten-year-old girl surrounded by smoke, towering trees, and a sacred emerald crystal.
Taynara felt the gentle strength of a warrior soul, while Shock D felt the heartbreaking grief and desperate cry of a sister in danger.
You… Taynara breathed in the spirit realm, the realization hitting her like a warm wave. It’s you.
Through the silence, their spirits connected. There were no words, only a deep, comforting beacon of starlight-blue peace. In that quiet cosmic space, they shared a sudden spiritual whisper—an exchange of names that echoed in their hearts like a song.
Taynara…
Shock D…
The connection lasted for only a heartbeat, but it was enough.
Shock D’s spirit reached out, leaving behind a lingering beacon of warmth and protection—an unspoken promise that help was coming.
As their spirits began to drift back to their own realms, a final electric whisper echoed in Taynara’s mind:
Find me… look for me in the world…
Before Taynara could speak, the spiritual current pulled her backward.
With a sudden gasp, both girls slammed back into their physical bodies thousands of miles apart.
Taynara’s eyes flew open She was back in the cold, stone hut, the quiet rustle of the leaves filling the air.
The Spirit World faded, but the message remained with crystalline clarity.
She didn’t know how many miles separated them or how they would physically cross paths, but as Taynara stood up, she knew three things with total certainty: the Spirit World had connected them, her grandfather’s promise was real, and she was no longer fighting alone.
She knew who her guide was now, but to reach her, she needed technology—a computer, a screen, a connection to the outside world.
Taynara stood up, her panic completely gone, replaced by fierce determination. She had no computer here in the jungle, but she knew where to find one. Suddenly she felt an overwhelming sense of peace and a clear, powerful pull toward the edge of the forest – the edge of her world.
